Shaklee Distributor Guidelines Limit Internet Marketing

Imagine millions of distributors and only 10 distributors ranking high enough to display on the first page of a Google or Yahoo search. This is reality. After the third search page, 30 links, the odds of someone continuing to click forward sharply diminishes. Most search engine users don't progress beyond the first page. Being that Shaklee does not permit use of company and product names in Internet marketing, the obstacles are overwhelming and seemingly impossible.

Now, imagine what would happen if the Distributor Guidelines were abolished. There would be 30 very happy Shaklee distributors. These are the ones that would consistently rank on the first three pages of every major search engine. Everyone else would be angry for not having a similar marketing advantage. Understanding this perspective does offer a valid explanation as to why the Distributor Guidelines exist. Shaklee's objective is to level the playing field, imposing rules that are conceptually fair for everyone. Other factors are also present like managing liability for false product claims and ensuring necessary legal disclaimers are not omitted. The Distributor Guidelines focus on what can't be done. Unfortunately, there is no substantial guidance regarding marketing techniques that are highly successful.

Acquiring a Shaklee PWS site is beneficial. How much so depends on external forces. Barring the practices forbidden by the Distributor Guidelines, Shaklee does permit informing existing customers of your PWS site. The link to your PWS site can be included within emails that comply and printed materials authorized by Shaklee. Rather than being a prominent marketing tool, Shaklee prefers your PWS site to merely supplement other forms of marketing. In this manner, you directly drive traffic to your PWS site.

But what if you want people to find your PWS site just as one would typically find a website? This is the most limiting aspect of the Distributor Guidelines, they can't if you fully comply. Very important, we don't recommend you breaking any of the guidelines. There are many techniques. Foremost, you should have your own website and pages on many social media sites. Promote yourself, your personal expertise and facts of interest to your customers and prospects. Don't use the Shaklee name or product names. Do include links to specific pages on your PWS site when the topic is appropriate. Update the content on a regular basis, at least once a month, and watch your search engine rankings climb.
